Preventing and Cleaning Tire Staining on Your Polyaspartic Flooring
What Causes Tire Staining?
Tire staining can happen for several reasons, one of which is plasticizers—chemicals used in tires to keep the rubber flexible. When your car sits in one spot for an extended period, these plasticizers can leach out of the tires and transfer onto your polyaspartic flooring. Over time, this transfer causes dark, sometimes sticky, stains on the surface.
Another cause could be polymer leaching from hot tires. Stains are more common with soft compound tires like: High Performance, Summer, Z-Rated, Motorcycle, Racing or Drag Radials, Aviation & other soft compounds
Is This a Problem with the Flooring?
The staining isn't a defect in the flooring itself but a natural interaction between the chemicals in the tires and the flooring material. It’s a common occurrence with polymer-based floors such as polyaspartic. The good news is that it doesn’t affect the structural integrity of your floor—it’s purely an aesthetic issue.
How to Remove Tire Stains
Here are some tips on how to clean and maintain your floor if you notice tire stains:
Use a Degreaser: We recommend D’Lemonine based citric acid degreaser. Apply it to the stained area and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes to break down the plasticizers.
Scrub Gently: Using a soft-bristle brush, gently scrub the stained area in circular motions. Avoid using abrasive tools or harsh chemicals that could damage the flooring surface.
Rinse Thoroughly: After scrubbing, rinse the area with clean water and dry it with a soft cloth or mop. Make sure no residue from the cleaning agent is left behind.
Repeat if Necessary: For tough stains, you might need to repeat the process a couple of times. Be patient and avoid using too much force to prevent damaging the floor.
Preventing Stains
Consider placing a mat or Lexan panels under your tires to prevent stains in the first place. Make sure the mats do not leave residue and are tire and chemical resistant for the best results.
